Rae Noritake is a licensed professional and an award-winning architect with 32 years regional, national and international experience in planning and architectural design. His project experience includes new construction, renovations, and additions on scores of large-scale projects in the commercial and corporate office, retail and high-rise residential sectors.
Mr. Noritake, founder of the practice, is responsible for the overall firm management, providing direction for all planning and design aspects on projects. As a “hands-on” principal, he is involved in projects at all phases, communicating with clients and staff, developing practical solutions to the unique challenges of each project. His combined talent as a designer and skill as a manager give him, a unique ability to coordinate projects within the overall framework of client budgets and schedules.
Rae’s work has been recognized by the National Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) and by the National Association of Industrial Office Parks (NAIOP) for design and planning excellence. Chief among these are awards for the Dulles Corner Masterplan located adjacent to Washington Dulles International Airport.
His design for the Farm Credit Banks Headquarters Building in Spokane, Washington received several citations not only for its design aesthetics, but also for energy efficiency and innovative use of daylighting. This building, designed more than two decades ago, set a standard for energy conservation in design that still stands up against to day’s LEED design goals.
Awards for this project included the Owings Corning Energy Award Conservation Award, the Sixth National Passive Solar Design Award, the Spokane Chapter AIA Award, and the Washington State AIA Civic Design Award.
Under his guidance, Noritake Associates, Inc. has grown over the last 22 years to become a recognized leader in architectural planning and design in the D.C. metropolitan area.

Andrew C. Smith is a licensed architect with over 30 years experience in the design, management, production, and construction of a wide range of regional and national architectural projects.
His experience includes the design and master planning of projects ranging from 10,000 SF to over 1,000,000 SF and encompasses commercial, institutional, and government sector projects and including speculative, corporate, and build-to-suit office buildings, hospitality facilities, building renovation, multi-family residential, educational and laboratory facilities.
Mr. Smith is known and respected for his management ability on large-scale, fast-track, complex building projects. He is highly skilled in every facet of the development process – from initial planning and zoning aspects through construction and project delivery. He has a proven track record in successfully representing his client’s needs and interests in dealings with zoning bodies, building code officials, neighborhood groups, elected officials, financing and marketing organizations, the end-users and their operations personnel.
The depth of this experience, along with his exceptional portfolio of work, brings a critical integration of experience and knowledge and across all the aspects of design and construction to his client’s projects.
Prestigious Fortune 100 projects recently completed by Andy include: Oracle East Coast Headquarters; KPMG Peat Marwick Headquarter, Sallie Mae Headquarters, Booz Allen Hamilton Headquarters, along with a number of public projects with specialized requirements including the National Reconnaissance Organization (NRO), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Peace Corps Headquarters.
Projects recently completed for institutional clients include the University of Virginia Foundation and the George Mason University Foundation. As a firm Principal, Andy is responsible for project management and quality control, as well as the overall management of the office.

Judy Noritake has been a licensed architect for more than 28 years and maintains licenses in several states as well as national certification. Her project experience includes commercial office buildings, adaptive re-use of historic buildings, criminal justice facilities, government buildings, housing for disabled children, schools, retails stores, restaurants, and custom housing.
She is primarily responsible for the day-to-day management of the firm's business affairs. In addition, she participates in project work when her specific project expertise is required, particularly on environmental and low impact development (LID) issues. Judy is LEED certified and worked for 12 years with several non-profit conservation organizations on environmental, open space and smart growth issues, and spent two years as a professional staff with the US House of Representatives. In addition to her undergraduate degree in architecture, Judy has a Masters of Science from the College of Forestry at the University of Idaho.
In her community of Alexandria she has served as longtime Chair of the Park & Recreation Commission and has been deeply involved with open space and conservation issues, serving as the past Chair of the Open Space Steering Committee. She also co-chairs the Arlington/Alexandria Four Mile Run Redesign Task Force and is currently serving her second-term as a gubernatorial appointee on the Virginia State Board of Forestry.
She has received various professional awards including one from the Washington State Trust for Historic Preservation in 1980 for work on the historic Spokane City Hall and another from the AIA & American Correctional Association in 1985 in the specialized field of criminal justice facilities for innovative design. Personal awards include Conservationalist of the Year in 2007, awarded by the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust and the 2004 Women Making a Difference Award from the Alexandria Commission on Women.
